Washington State must prioritize primary care and the Patient Centered Medical Home (PCMH) in all of its health care delivery system related decisions. A policy emphasis that encourages the delivery of the right care, at the right time, in the right place will save money and improve the health of people in Washington State.
We challenge the public and private medical communities to create a system where every patient is cared for by a primary care provider in a medical home setting in the next 5 – 10 years. We suggest that it will require:
KEYNOTE SPEAKER & MODERATOR
Glen Stream, MD, MBI, FAAFP President, American Academy of Family Physicians, Spokane and Chief Medical Information Officer and Family Physician, Rockwood Clinic, Spokane
A Washington native, Dr. Stream has an undergraduate degree from the University of Washington and attended the University of Washington School of Medicine. He also completed a Master of Biomedical Informatics degree at the Oregon Health and Science University in June 2007. Dr. Stream has firsthand experience in rural medicine, as part of a three-physician family medicine practice in Cashmere, WA. Since 1991, Glen has been with the Rockwood Clinic, the largest multi-specialty practice in Spokane, where he has served as board member, chief privacy officer, medical director of clinical information services, now as chief medical information officer and continues to see patients. Dr. Stream was installed as President of the AAFP in September, 2011.

Phyllis Cavens, MD, FAAPMedical Director, Child & Adolescent Clinic, Vancouver & Longview
Dr. Cavens is a pediatrician and Medical Director of the Child and Adolescent Clinic, a private practice which she founded in 1978. She attended Oregon Health Sciences University Medical School, where she also completed her Pediatric Residency and a Child Development Fellowship. She is a Trustee of the WA Chapter of the American Academy of Pediatrics and chairs the Medical Home committee. She has gone on numerous international medical missions to care for children in refugee camps.
Beth Harvey, MD, FAAPLegislative Chair & Immediate Past President, Washington Chapter American Academy of Pediatrics, Olympia
Dr. Harvey is a pediatrician at Pediatric Associates in Olympia, the practice that cared for her as a child. She is immediate past president of the Washington Chapter of the American Academy of Pediatricians (WCAAP) and is on the board of the Washington Vaccine Association. She attended medical school at the University of Missouri-Kansas City, spent her residency and chief resident year at the University of Utah/Primary Children's, after which she joined her current practice.
Dave Lynch, MDVice-President, Clinical Process Improvement and Business Development, Family Care Network, Bellingham
Dr. Lynch oversees clinical process improvement and business development, and sees patients in the Medical Testing Center and After Hours Urgent Care Center at the Family Care Network (FCN). In August, 1978, he opened an office together with other FCN doctors. The FCN group includes 50 family physicians in 12 locations. He completed his family medicine residency from 1975-1978 at the University of Washington program, Family Medicine Spokane.
Pete McGough, MD, FAAFPChief Medical Officer, UW Neighborhood Clinics, Seattle
Dr. McGough is responsible for overseeing all clinical services provided within the University of Washington Physicians Network (UWPN), and for implementing clinical quality improvement programs. Dr. McGough also serves as a clinical liaison with the various divisions of UW Medicine, and on the UW Physicians Board and Executive Committees. He currently serves on the Board of the Puget Sound Health Alliance. Dr. McGough is a board certified family physician who has been in active practice in the Seattle area since 1982. Dr. McGough served as the President of the Washington State Medical Association in 1994-1995. He received his medical degree from the University of Southern California.
