9/14/2011 ORLANDO, FL -William R. Phillips, MD, MPH, FAAFP, has been named the 2011 American Academy of Family Physicians Foundation Philanthropist of the Year. Dr. Phillips serves as the Theodore J. Phillips Endowed Professor in Family Medicine at the University of Washington School of Medicine.
Bill Phillips has a long, distinguished record serving his community and specialty, at the local, state and national levels. His tremendous commitment to his community, his patients and his specialty was recognized by the Washington Academy of Family Physicians in 1999, when it awarded Dr. Phillips its highest honor, the WAFP Family Physician of the Year. He has served the Academy as WAFP Treasurer, Washington Delegate to the AAFP and as chair of the AAFP Commission on Clinical Policies and Research. Dr. Phillips is past President of North American Primary Care Research Group (NAPCRG) and is the Senior Associate Editor of the Annals of Family Medicine.
Dr. Phillips has been a longtime contributor to the AAFP Foundation and a leader in developing its research grant programs. He serves as a curator of the Center for the History of Family Medicine in Kansas City, MO, sponsored by the AAFP Foundation, and led development of its new a Fellowship in the History of Family Medicine.
The AAFP Foundation Philanthropist of the Year Award is given to individuals who set a standard of excellence in Family Medicine philanthropy. It recognizes the leadership, dedication, and remarkable philanthropic contributions that Dr. Phillips has made to family medicine over his long and distinguished career.
