About WAFP

The Washington Academy of Family Physicians (WAFP) is comprised of physicians who specialize in Family Medicine, residents in Family Medicine training programs, and medical students interested in the specialty. With more than 2,800 members, WAFP is the largest medical specialty organization in Washington State. The WAFP is the Washington State chapter of the American Academy of Family Physicians (AAFP).

The WAFP works to influence the development of health care policy by encouraging its members to become involved and to take leadership positions;  advocating for enactment of legislation and regulations that will enable all Washingtonians to have a medical home and access to health care.

We strive to promote interest in Family Medicine as a career and support Washington State Medical Schools and Residency programs in their effort to provide high quality family medicine education programs.

We seek innovative solutions to challenges in providing health care to rural communities, immigrant populations, and generally all underserved citizens of Washington State.

Mission

Advance and support Family Physicians in providing optimal health care for all people in Washington State.

Vision

WAFP’s vision is to transform health care to achieve optimal health for everyone in Washington State.

Values

Believing that Family Medicine is good for patients, communities and the State of Washington, WAFP is guided by these principles of care:

  • Accessible and equitable for all people;
  • Centered on the whole person within the context of family and community;
  • Based on science, technology and best available evidence;
  • Supported by workforce development and lifelong professional learning;
  • Grounded in respect and compassion for the individual; and
  • Bold leadership, innovation, collaboration, and stewardship
