Medicare Advantage & NCQA Certification
Medicare Advantage & NCQA Certification
WHEREAS, the Washington Academy of Family Physicians (WAFP) is a member-driven organization committed to supporting Washington State family physicians in their efforts to provide optimal health care to the people of Washington through education, advocacy, and research, and
WHEREAS, the WAFP works to influence health care policy, and
WHEREAS, the WAFP seeks innovative solutions to health care problems, and
WHEREAS, the WAFP, with more than 2,600 members, is the largest medical specialty organization in Washington State, and
WHEREAS, the care of individuals and families covered by Medicare insurance is an important part of providing optimal health care to the people of Washington, and
WHEREAS, many family physicians are unable to accept new Medicare patients due to inadequate and dysfunctional Medicare re-imbursement, and
WHEREAS, family physicians require Medicare payment plans that financially and administratively support their efforts to provide this service, and
WHEREAS, the NCQA has recently launched a program to certify practices which provide the personal medical home, and
WHEREAS, currently available Medicare insurance plans do not adequately provide the administrative and financial resources needed by family physicians to provide the NCQA defined personal medical home, and
RESOLVED
, that the WAFP advocate on behalf of its members with all companies which offer Medicare Advantage plans in Washington State, in order to request them to offer Medicare insurance products in the State of Washington that pay family physicians at average commercial insurance rates, and also provide payment for the work of providing the NCQA personal medical home, and be it further
RESOLVED
, that the WAFP encourage member physicians to apply for certification of their practices to provide the personal medical home, and also educate and support member physicians to gain NCQA certification in order to provide the personal medical home and new model of care to our patients, and be it further
RESOLVED
, that the WAFP share their experience with the NCQA Medical Home certification program with the American Academy of Family Physicians (AAFP) via our delegates to the AAFP, and in whatever other way WAFP leadership considers appropriate.
