WAFP 2009 Annual Meeting in Spokane
WAFP 2009 Annual Meeting in Spokane
WHEREAS, the WAFP has had a successful 25-year affiliation with the Primary Care Update program presented by the Inland Northwest Chapter of WAFP in Spokane, and
WHEREAS, the Primary Care Update program has been a vital link for continuing medical education to family physicians, primary care providers and WAFP’s Eastern Washington membership and has relied upon pharmaceutical support to maintain its excellent content, and
WHEREAS, the WAFP Annual Scientific Assembly is scheduled to rotate to an Eastern Washington site, which would typically be Spokane, in 2009 for the WAFP Board of Delegates and Annual Scientific Assembly, and
WHEREAS, a WAFP Annual Scientific Assembly held separately from the Primary Care Update program in the same month in Spokane or other Eastern Washington site would result in competing attendance goals, and
WHEREAS, the WAFP passed a resolution in 2006 requiring that the WAFP Annual Scientific Assembly be presented without pharmaceutical funding, and
WHEREAS, the WAFP is required to hold an annual meeting of the House of Delegates but is not required to hold a WAFP-sponsored Annual Scientific Assembly, therefore be it
RESOLVED
, the WAFP hold the 2009 House of Delegates and related annual organizational events in Spokane on the same weekend and in the same location as the Primary Care Update program presented by the Inland Northwest Chapter of WAFP, and be it further

, the WAFP not independently develop a full Annual Scientific Assembly in 2009, and be it further
RESOLVED
, the WAFP Annual Scientific Assembly committee consider developing pre- or post-conference educational opportunities as deemed necessary that will be free of pharmaceutical funding in a coordinated fashion with the Primary Care Update planning committee, and be it further
RESOLVED
, the WAFP work with the Primary Care Update planning committee to develop a plan to allow complimentary events, coordinated joint registration for the WAFP annual meeting and the Primary Care Update, and joint promotion of these time-linked events in 2009, and be it further
RESOLVED
, the WAFP will decline any financial proceeds that would have come from joint sponsorship of Primary Care Update as some of the funding is derived from pharmaceutical entities. (Financial note: loss of normal income $9,000 - 15,000)
