Continuing Medical Education (CME)
Member CME Requirements:
It is a requirement for AAFP membership that family physicians accrue 150 credits of CME credit within a three-year period; of which a minimum of 25 must be obtained from group learning activities and a minimum of 75 credits must be AAFP Prescribed credit.
Credit Eligibility:
For an activity to be eligible for Prescribed credit, it must be designed for physicians with planning input from a family physician who is an Active or Life member, who must sign on the application verifying family physician input. Activities that do not have family physician input are eligible for review for Elective credit. The activity must have scientific/clinical content with a direct bearing on patient care, on the delivery of patient care, or on the teaching, ethical, or social responsibilities of the family physician.
Options for Fulfilling CME Requirements:
Group Activities -- Live activity with two or more learners
Enduring Materials -- Self-study activities including audio, CD ROM, online, print, video, etc.
Medical Journals -- Collection of articles in audio, online, print or video
Evidence-Based CME -- CME that meets additional criteria related to the clinical content
