2009 Family Medicine Educator of the Year Award

The Washington Academy of Family Physicians Foundation is pleased to honor Dr. Jane Huntington, MD as this year's recipient of the Family Medicine Educator of the Year Award.

The Washington Academy of Family Physicians is accepting nominations for the 2010 Family Medicine Educator of the Year Award.  This was developed by the WAFP Foundation Board of Directors to acknowledge Academy members deserving recognition for excellence in teaching, as well as individuals who have implemented outstanding educational programs, and/or developed innovative teaching models.  One award will be presented to a full-time, part-time, or volunteer faculty.

Award: The WAFP Family Medicine Educator of the Year will be awarded a plaque and a cash prize of $500. 

Nominations: Nominations are sought annually from the following people in time to be considered by the WAFP Foundation Board of Directors to be presented at WAFP’s Annual Meeting:

  1. All Family Medicine Residency Directors in Washington
  2. Chair of the WAFP Education Commission
  3. UWSOM Department of Family Medicine Chair
  4. UWSOM Family Medicine Residency Network Director
  5. UWSOM Pre-Doctoral Section Head (coordinates clerkships)
  6. Other interested WAFP Members

Selection: Selection of the award winner from the list of nominees will be made by the WAFP Foundation Board of Directors.

Presentation: The award will be presented at the WAFP Annual Banquet and Foundation Auction in May.

Selection Criteria:The nominees for the Family Medicine Educator of the Year will be evaluated based upon the following criteria:

  1. Recognized for exemplary teaching skills and outstanding progression of abilities over several years by medical students, residents, or peers
    or
  2. Developed and implement innovative curriculum, teaching model(s) or program(s) in a variety of educational spheres,
    and
  3. Must be a current member of the AAFP/WAFP

All nominations must include the following information to be eligible for consideration:

  1. Completed nomination form
  2. A typed copy of a current Curriculum Vitae
  3. A minimum of three and a maximum of five letters of recommendation.  At least two of the letters of recommendation must be submitted from individuals who are current or form students/residents who have been taught by the nominee.

Nominations must be received by January 31, 2010
