Highlights of the 2008 Annual Scientific Assembly:
  • Pharmaceutical-free environment.
  • Innovative and high-quality talks combined with evidence-based medicine.
  • EB-CME certified courses that give you double-credit for attending; average attendee earns 18-25 CME credits over two days.
  • Topics that matter most to family physicians and other primary care providers, equipping you with information to make knowledge-based decisions in multiple practice facets including Clinical, Business and Policy.
  • TWO ABFM Maintenance-of-Certification Self-Assessment Modules.
  • Student & Resident Track designed by and for medical students and Family Medicine residents. Residents and Students are encouraged to register directly with WAFP
Learning Objectives
  • Provide culturally competent and patient-centered evidence-based CME courses that equip family physicians and primary care providers with information to make knowledge-based decisions in multiple practice facets including Clinical, Business, and Policy.
  • Inform family physicians and primary care providers of practical approaches to the New Model of primary care based on the concept of a relationship-focused personal medical home.
  • Educate family physicians and primary care providers in the current evidence-based management of medical conditions encompassed within family medicine.
  • Empower family physicians and primary care providers to be agents of change in their own communities, dealing with the public and policy-makers at any level.
  • Foster opportunities for high-quality education and interaction among medical students, family medicine residents, mid-level providers, and family physicians, ensuring a healthy pipeline of physicians for the future.
  • Promote healthy self-care behaviors in family physicians
Accreditation
This activity has been reviewed and is acceptable for up to 20.25 Prescribed credit(s) by the American Academy of Family Physicians. Of these credits, 8.75 conform to the AAFP criteria for evidence-based CME clinical content.

In addition, the session on “Evidence-Based Strategies of Managing Alzheimer's Disease” has been jointly sponsored by Tulane University Health Sciences Center and Academic Alliances in Medical Education Inc. Tulane University Health Sciences Center is accredited by the ACCME to provide continuing medical education for physicians. This session has been reviewed and is acceptable for up to 2.00 Prescribed credit(s) by the American Academy of Family Physicians. Of these credits, 1.00 conforms to the AAFP criteria for evidence-based CME clinical content.**

CME credit has been increased to reflect 2 for 1 credit for only the EB CME portion.  When reporting AAFP credit, report total Prescribed and Elective credit for this activity. It is not necessary to label credit as evidence-based CME for reporting purposes.

The EB CME credit awarded for this activity was based on practice recommendations that were the most current with the strongest level of evidence available at the time this activity was approved. Since clinical research is ongoing, AAFP recommends that learners verify sources and review these and other recommendations prior to implementation into practice.

Regarding AMA and AOA Accreditation:
**The session on Alzheimer’s Disease is also approved for a maximum of 1.5 AMA PRA Category 1 Credits. Physicians should only claim credit commensurate with the extent of their participation in the activity. To receive the maximum amount of credits, participants must participate in the 1-hour conference and complete 2 post conference supplemental e-mail assessments.

AAFP Prescribed credit is accepted by the American Medical Association as equivalent to AMA PRA Category 1 Credit™ toward the AMA Physician's Recognition Award. When applying for the AMA PRA, Prescribed credit earned must be reported as Prescribed credit, not as Category 1.

CME activities approved for AAFP credit are recognized by the AOA as equivalent to AOA Category 2-A credit.
