WAFP Advocacy Now!

You are invited to advocate for federal health care reform, for your patients and the future of Family Medicine.  As the legislative machinations pick back up in Washington, DC, you will be kept apprised.  As you are aware, the AAFP has played a key role representing you in the health care reform discussions but is only relevant to your Member of Congress because of you; please stay connected to the process.

Follow this link and you will find tools that will help you contact your Congressperson and staff while he/she is working in the district.  Just as Members of Congress represent different views, Washington State’s family physicians have individual priorities or issues they’d like to see reform efforts focused on.  In order for you to deliver YOUR message, please review the table of contents and choose documents to tailor your communication to fit the priorities you are most interested in.  If you believe reform should be comprehensive, use the corresponding documents.  If you are more concerned that primary care workforce issues, or the patient-centered medical home be addressed in the national debate, then you may use those documents.  Feel free to cover all of the topics you are passionate about and be sure to speak authentically, representing your views.

BOTTOM LINE: Whatever issue or information you choose to use, Family Medicine’s voice (yours) needs to be heard by Washington’s congressional delegation now.  Your communication may be conveyed via e-mail, fax, phone call, personal visit, or attend a town hall meeting.

FEEDBACK REQUESTED: As you know, WAFP and AAFP value your comments and feedback; we encourage you to share what you learn in your communication with Members of Congress.  If you have any questions about how to proceed, or if you gain insight about information we can provide to help your Member, please contact Karla.  She can be reached at 425-747-3100 or at: karla@wafp.net

Thank you for considering doing your part to see that Congress takes action to improve the health care available to your patients in Washington State! If your views don’t get expressed to Congress now, then when?
