If you are looking for experiences that will help you explore a career in family medicine, the WAFP and AAFP can provide the resources, and opportunities. We encourage you to get involved!
1. Learning and Leadership - As future leaders your voice is valued! Opportunities to represent medical students include WAFP committee appointments, trustee positions, and delegate positions to both the WAFP Annual House of Delegates and the AAFP National Conference of Family Medicine Residents and Students (NCFMRS).
The annual Policy Advocacy and Leadership Institute held each year in Olympia, trains participants to speak about issues relevant to family medicine and organizes opportunities for members to meet with state legislators.
Scholarships are available to attend the AAFP Family Medicine Congressional Conference in Washington DC, an opportunity to gain advocacy skills and “spend a day on the hill” meeting with Washington’s congressional delegation. You are also encouraged to participate in the WAFP Annual Scientific Assembly which includes an educational track specially designed for students and residents. Among our most popular events, the WAFP Foundation Annual Student & Resident Retreat allows students and residents to hear panel discussions and mingle with practicing family physicians, attend clinical workshops, and enjoy networking with other medical students and residents.
